Windmill admission
Adults £6
Children £2 (minimum 100cm tall)

Admission to the windmill is by ticket. Admission to the visitor centre, gardens and grounds is free of charge.

Numbers are limited inside the windmill, due to the limited floor space and steep, narrow stairs.

Book online via EventBrite to guarantee your entry time. Once admitted you are free to move through the windmill at your own pace (most people take around 45 minutes).

Any unsold tickets will be available on the day on a ‘first come first served’ basis, subject to capacity

Visitors to upper floors must have closed-in footwear – trainers are ideal. Sorry, no sandals, crocs, flip-flops or high-heeled shoes.

Visitors will need to be able to manage the steep and narrow stairs unaided.

Upminster Windmill was built for James Nokes, a local farmer, in 1803. It is a Grade II* listed building and in terms of quality, completeness and significance it is widely considered to be amongst the very best remaining English smock mills.

The re-opening of Upminster Windmill was featured on BBC London News in September 2023

SMARTMOLEN.COM

The digital telemetry known as smartmolen, originally developed to monitor the behaviour of the cap and sails at Upminster Windmill, has now been installed at windmills across England and Germany. This enables remote monitoring of the cap movements relative to the wind conditions. Current conditions at each mill, and the directions their sails are facing, can be viewed at www.smartmolen.com
